Pleasurewood Hills has been creating unforgettable family days out since 1983, welcoming guests from across Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, and the wider East of England. Nestled in coastal woodland in Lowestoft, near to Great Yarmouth, Pleasurewood Hills has been proudly making memories for over 40 years. From its humble beginnings, the park has grown into a vibrant and award-winning destination, earning accolades for customer service, social media engagement, best mascot, best new event, and even commendation for one of its scare maze horror attractions, reflecting the hard work and dedication of the Pleasurewood Hills team.
In 2011, the park was purchased by leisure and hospitality specialists The Looping Group, before being acquired in 2025 by independent UK company Premier Attractions Limited, ensuring a renewed focus on delivering fun, accessible, and memorable experiences for families. Today, Pleasurewood Hills combines thrill rides, family attractions, children’s rides, and live displays with a welcoming, safe environment, making it one of the East of England’s top destinations for family fun, theme park adventures, and memorable days out.

The Founder and Park Origins
Pleasurewood Hills began as the vision of local Lowestoft entrepreneur Joe Larter, a passionate professional in visitor attractions and family entertainment. With dedication, creativity, and a love for bringing families together, Joe laid the foundation for what has grown into one of the East of England’s most beloved theme parks and family day out destinations, popular for visitors to Suffolk and the nearby Great Yarmouth. His enthusiasm and commitment to creating fun experiences for all ages ensured that Pleasurewood Hills became a landmark in Suffolk, close to Norfolk, offering attractions for thrill-seekers, children, and families alike.
After a long and successful career, Joe chronicled his journey in his autobiography, Serendipity, reflecting on the highs and memorable moments of his life in the entertainment industry. In 2019, Joe returned to the park to see it thriving under The Looping Group and current General Manager Ricky Lark, and to catch up with an old friend, the park mascot Woody Bear, celebrating the enduring spirit of the park he helped create.
A royal encounter
Pleasurewood Hills has a rich history, including a very special moment in 1985 when the late Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh visited Lowestoft in Suffolk. During their visit, the royal party came to meet local residents and officially rename the precinct on London Road North as Queen Elizabeth II Place.
As part of the celebrations, the Queen had the privilege of meeting one of the park’s most famous residents, the cuddly and beloved Woody Bear, who welcomed her with open arms. In a memorable gesture, the park’s representatives presented two soft Woody Bear toys as gifts for her two new grandchildren, Prince William and Prince Harry, creating a charming connection between Pleasurewood Hills and the Royal Family.
This historic encounter remains a proud moment in the park’s story, reflecting its longstanding place in the community of Suffolk and its cherished status as a family attraction for generations.
Crinkly Bottom and Mr Blobby
The 1990s were an exciting era for family and children’s entertainment, and Pleasurewood Hills was at the heart of it. In 1995, Noel Edmunds’ House Party brought its unique charm to the park, transforming the iconic Pleasurewood Hills theatre into the whimsical Crinkley Bottom Castle. Guests were treated to laughter, fun, and unforgettable entertainment as Noel Edmunds and his vibrant pink-and-yellow sidekick, Mr Blobby, delighted families throughout the day.
The opening day was particularly memorable, as the festivities included the official ribbon-cutting for the Cannonball Express rollercoaster, which has remained a favourite family ride for generations. This event cemented Pleasurewood Hills’ reputation as a leading family attraction in Suffolk, close to Norfolk, blending thrilling rides with unique entertainment experiences. It was a perfect example of the park’s dedication to creating fun-filled days out for families, combining exciting rides, live entertainment, and unforgettable memories.
A new chapter
In 2025, Pleasurewood Hills began an exciting new chapter under the ownership of UK-based Premier Attractions Ltd. Following its sale by the Looping Group, the park’s acquisition marked the start of a visionary era led by the Stokes family, who are committed to investing in the park’s future and enhancing the guest experience. With a strong focus on family-friendly fun, the new owners aim to build on the park’s rich heritage while introducing innovative developments across rides, attractions, and amenities. The Stokes’ plans include further investment in the park’s infrastructure, exciting new attractions, and improved facilities, ensuring every visit offers a memorable experience for guests of all ages. Premier Attractions’ approach combines passion, professionalism, and a dedication to making Pleasurewood Hills a top destination in East Anglia, with easy access from Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, and beyond, solidifying its status as one of the region’s most loved family theme parks.
